Cape Town is passionately known as the Mother City

You can easily spend a week in Cape Town as there is plenty to see and do.

Table Mountain is unquestionably one of the world’s most famous landmarks. The panoramic view from its 1086 meter summit is spectacular as Cape Town stretches away to the distant shores of the Atlantic and have a clear view of Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 prison years!). Chopper flips or ferry rides to Robben Island are the two ways of seeing this historic place. Table Mountain is estimated to be over 60 million years old and is just over 3km long. The cableway which ferries passengers to and from the summit was first opened in 1929, it has recently been upgraded to a sleek “Rotair” cable car which rotates through 360 degrees and provides stunning views en route.

Tour Cape Town

The West Coast of Southern Africa is one of the alternative trips to consider if you enjoy wide open spaces with a low population, lots of beaches, great mountain scenery, unpolluted night skies, good food, country hospitality, Rooibos tea products, and great value wines. This is only an hour’s drive from Cape Town and you can spend a few days visiting this gem of a best-kept secret.

The beaches at the Cape may be described, simply, as glorious. Miles of crisp, white sands washed by the clean, clear waters of the chilly Atlantic on the west coast, and the warmer Indian Ocean in the east coast.

At Cape Town’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, neglected warehouses where skillfully transformed to create a dockland of museums, pubs, shops, restaurants and hotels and is now the one of the most popular destinations in the City.

In 1652, Jan van Riebeeck established the first settlement at the Cape below the Flat-topped mass of Table Mountain. This 'Mother City' of Cape Town became a vital stop for passing seafarers - and several hundred years later, she retains that grand reputation as one of the world's foremost harbour cities. The port of Cape Town is South Africa’s second largest, and the fifth busiest in Africa. Much of the harbour area has been reclaimed from the sea. Nine kilometers off Table Bay is Robben Island, where a maximum security prison was established in 1658.
