Day One

Depart Johannesburg at 07h30 and travel east to Dullstroom and Lydenburg. A short refreshment break in Ohrigstad then a drive along the panorama route along the escarpment of the Drakensberg mountains, stopping at the Blyde River Canyon to experience the breathtaking view. This magnificent canyon is the third largest canyon in the world. Continue down the Abel Erasmus Pass into the Lowveld and a stop for lunch and time to visit a curio gallery. It is now only a thirty minute drive to the private game lodge within africa big five territory. After enjoying a cold welcome drink on arrival, time to settle it to your room.

Late afternoon is "safari time" you board an open game tracking vehicle to explore the African Bush looking for some of the many species that make this area home. The ranger will point out and explain the many animals found, and hopefully you will be lucky enough to see the elusive cats.

At sunset sundowners are enjoyed in the bush, followed by a night drive using spot lights to look for the elusive nocturnal animals. We end the evening with dinner under the African sky in a traditional "boma" (reeded enclosure).

Day Two

A very early morning wake up call an a welcome mug of coffee with your ranger before departing on the early morning game drive. Return to the lodge for hearty breakfast, after breakfast there is time to freshen up then enjoy the lodge surroundings before leaving the lodge and traveling a short distance to another lodge, arriving in time for lunch. Spend time exploring the new lodge surroundings before meeting your ranger for an afternoon tea and snacks before departing on the afternoon/evening game drive. After the sun set stop for your favourite drink the drive is continued with the aid of spot lights looking for any animals not yet spotted. Return to the lodge and we end the evening with dinner and drinks around a fire in a traditional "boma".

Day Three

A very early morning wake up call an a welcome mug of coffee with your ranger before departing on the early morning game drive. Return to the lodge for hearty breakfast, after breakfast there is time to go on a game walk with your ranger or freshen up then enjoy the lodge surroundings. Escape the midday heat by spending time in or around the swimming pool, relaxing in a hammock, being pampered in the "sala" with a massage or enjoy a siesta. A light lunch is enjoyed under a tree looking out over the bush and a waterhole. Afternoon high tea is a time to interact with other guests and is served at around 3:30pm with a selection salty and sweet treats. Following directly thereafter you are off to an afternoon & evening game drive adventure with a stop-over in the bush for sundowners watching the splendour of the African sun setting over the mountains. Drinks are accompanied by snacks and some South African specialties.  After the sun set stop the drive is continued with the aid of spot lights looking for any animals not yet spotted. Return to the lodge, freshen up and meet for a pre dinner drink and then have dinner around a fire in a traditional "boma" or in the lodge dining room.

Day Four

Start the day with another game drive accompanied by a ranger for one last opertuinity to spot any animals not yet seen. After a healthy breakfast, we leave the lodge and head back to Johannesburg. We will travel up the Kowyn's mountain pass and visit Gods Window, Lisbon Falls, and the picturesque Long Tom Pass. Arriving in Johannesburg at 17h00.

The itinerary may be changed to accommodate weather and time constraints.

 

The above tariffs include:

Clients will be collected from and dropped off at their hotel or home in the Johannesburg or Pretoria area, traveling in luxury air-conditioned Microbuses or sedan with registered driver guides.

Notes:

1. An option is to fly back to Johannesburg from Hoedspruit instead of returning by the same road. The 75 minute flight from Hoedspruit arrives in Johannesburg early enough to get a connecting flight to Cape Town or to meet any of the evening international flights. For 2 guest travelling together this will also work out more cost effective.

2. During the summer, October to April which is the rainy season you must be aware of the Marai risk in the Kruger Park area, please consult with a doctor about taking Malaria prophylactics

What should I wear?

You will require comfortable, casual and semi-casual clothes for your safari to South Africa, nothing fancy. Please note that bright colours are not suitable for game-viewing and that game-drives are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon which can be cold, especially in winter.
