Rhino Walking Safaris has exclusive use of the only officially designed wilderness concession in the Kruger National Park, covering 12 000ha of pristine bushveld untraversed by roads except for access. The concession has a 15km border with Mal Mala in the Sabi Sands private reserve and the game moves freely between the two reserves. This environmentally sensitive big five area is ideal for walking safaris offering a great diversity of fauna & flora.

Nothing is predictable in the bush therefore each safari offers a potentially new experience.

After an introductory brief on the ‘do’s & don’ts’ of bush walking safaris, the guide will structure the trail taking into account the fitness level of the group and any special requests. Departures are before breakfast and again in the late afternoon to avoid the midday heat, with the average duration between 3 and 4 hours. Walks may be lengthened or shortened depending on the group’s desires and fitness levels.

On a walk you will follow tracks, feel the tingle of your own senses, and hear the beating of your heart as you edge closer to a herd of elephant.

Now that the fences between the Kruger Park and the surrounding privately owned land have been dropped forming The Greater Kruger National Park a genuine big five safari experienced can be experienced at numerous privately owned game lodges that where once "outside" the Kruger Park

The Kruger Park was first proclaimed in 1898 as the Sabie Game Reserve by the then president of the Transvaal Republic, Paul Kruger. He first proposed the need to protect the animals of the Lowveld in 1884, but his revolutionary vision took another 12 years to be realized when the area between the Sabie and Crocodile Rivers was set aside for restricted hunting.
On 31 May 1926 the National Parks Act was proclaimed and with it the merging of the Sabie and Shingwedzi Game Reserves into the Kruger National Park as we know it today.
The first motorists entered the park in 1927 for a fee of one pound.

For an unrivalled wilderness experience guests are able walk out to a “Sleep Outs” on elevated wooden platforms (weather permitting). This is the only place in the Kruger National Park and the only walking safari offering this unusual accommodation.
